Firbolg Grave Cleric (5)
Dampé is an orphan. He was abandoned as an infant. It is unknown why exactly he was cast aside, but it is presumed due to his physical disabilities.
Left on the doorstep of his naturalized village’s church, he was adopted by the local priest, Father Cyrille. He was brought up and educated under the roof of ‘The Church of Lathander’. It was here that he became accustomed to the ways and habits of the civilized, non-fey, world. Due to his physical capacity he was appointed the role of groundskeeper (a.k.a. gravedigger) of the holy place.
Throughout the years, he studied the practices of proper graves-keeping and internment under the watchful eye of Kelemvor, and thus swore fealty to him. As an acolyte of the aforementioned, he devoted himself to the study of the afterlife and the process of death, promising to guide the dead to peace and everlasting life (or damnation) as well as forsaking the abominations of undeath and necromancy.
On an average day, Dampé can be seen on the grounds of Chapel Lathander tending and nurturing the graveyard. He often speaks to the trees and birds within the grounds (due to his innate Firbolg abilities), in particular to a multi-generational family of crows he titled ‘The Murder’. During the night, he will don his trusty lantern and shovel to dig the graves of the dead, all the while humming dirges of the deceased. Dampé does not venture into the public often, only when needed (transporting the dead in his wheel-cart, buying supplies for the church). In his off-time, he is mostly isolated in his shack in the far west corner of the church grounds. Here he continues his studies of death and life, as well as medicine and religion.
