In which there is a fight in the Tea Kettle and the party leans into scholarly pursuits

  • Morale in the guild is low due to the recent deaths of members, the city guards harassing the guild hall, and a general feeling of helpessness
  • Elias proposes sending recruits along with the party in a “ridealong” capacity
  • We meet Timmy, the first member to try the new idea

Loot:

Hobgoblins and Goblins in the Tea Kettle

  • copper, silver, gold, electrum, small gems totalling 40 GP, 10 of which Timmy took
  • various cool looking rocks, shards, etc the value of which is really in the eyes of the beholder.
  • A bag containing 47 humanoid teeth, 1 of which is rotten. 5 of them are on a thin leather cord, and a few of them have holes scratched partway through them. There is also a crude metal implement that appears to be used to scratch the holes in the teeth.
  • A block of soap (unused)
  • An ivory d20
  • A crude alabaster carving of a mouse
  • A toe in a jar. Not pickled or mummified, but strangely not rotting
  • A scrap of paper on which is written, in Goblin, “My dearest Bess,”.

Gnolls, Orc, Worg, Keshi at summoning circle

Gnolls:

  • A pouch of greasy fur
  • A worn whetstone (unusable)
  • A slab of oozing raw meat covered in maggots
  • Assorted fungi – mostly growing on the Gnolls themselves

Orc:

  • [Leon] The True Greatsword (Weapon, greatsword, requires attunement): This flawless steel-bladed greatsword is the archetype of all greatswords, and all other greatswords bow before it. When you deal damage with this weapon, no other greatsword within your line of sight can deal an equal or greater amount of damage until the end of your next turn. Other than that, it functions as a regular greatsword.

Keshi:

  • An iron holy symbol devoted to an unknown god. This grants the effect “Lava Breathing.” You can breathe normally under lava for 1 hour after expending a charge. The symbol provides no protection against heat or fire damage. 1/day

Rage

:
In battle, you fight with primal ferocity. On your turn, you can enter a rage as a bonus action.

While raging, you gain the following benefits if you aren’t wearing heavy armor:

You have advantage on Strength checks and Strength saving throws.
When you make a melee weapon attack using Strength, you gain a bonus to the damage roll that increases as you gain levels as a barbarian, as shown in the Rage Damage column of the Barbarian table.
You have resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage.
If you are able to cast spells, you can’t cast them or concentrate on them while raging.

Your rage lasts for 1 minute. It ends early if you are knocked unconscious or if your turn ends and you haven’t attacked a hostile creature since your last turn or taken damage since then. You can also end your rage on your turn as a bonus action.

Once you have raged the number of times shown for your barbarian level in the Rages column of the Barbarian table, you must finish a long rest before you can rage again.

A silvery beam of pale light shines down in a 5-foot radius, 40-foot-high cylinder centered on a point within range. Until the spell ends, dim light fills the cylinder.

When a creature enters the spell’s area for the first time on a turn or starts its turn there, it is engulfed in ghostly flames that cause searing pain, and it must make a Constitution saving throw. It takes 2d10 radiant damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

A shapechanger makes its saving throw with disadvantage. If it fails, it also instantly reverts to its original form and can’t assume a different form until it leaves the spell’s light.

On each of your turns after you cast this spell, you can use an action to move the beam up to 60 feet in any direction.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, the damage increases by 1d10 for each slot level above 2nd.

You can use your Channel Divinity to refresh your allies with soothing twilight.

As an action, you present your holy symbol, and a sphere of twilight emanates from you. The sphere is centered on you, has a 30-foot radius, and is filled with dim light. The sphere moves with you, and it lasts for 1 minute or until you are incapacitated or die. Whenever a creature (including you) ends its turn in the sphere, you can grant that creature one of these benefits:

— You grant it temporary hit points equal to 1d6 plus your cleric level.

— You end one effect on it causing it to be charmed or frightened.
